If a local DA can prosecute someone under federal law in a local courtroom... wouldn’t it have implications for the enforcement of immigration law in border states?

Didn’t Arizona try to prosecute illegal immigrants under Federal law and was stopped/prevented by the Federal Government? I seem to recall something of the sort.
