The Philadelphia Department of Public Health announced Monday that a city program aims to provide pregnant residents with $1,000 monthly cash payments with the goal of improving birth outcomes.

The Philly Joy Bank is a guaranteed income pilot of the Philadelphia Community Action Network, a collective impact stakeholder group focused on reducing racial disparities in infant mortality.

After securing some funding from the William Penn Foundation and Spring Point Partners, 250 pregnant Philadelphians will receive the cash payments.

To be eligible, the residents must live in the Cobbs Creek, Strawberry Mansion or Nicetown-Tioga neighborhoods, which have the highest rates of very low birth weight and have a household income of less than $100,000 per year annually.

The department is looking to launch the program early next year and hopes to eventually reach a fundraising goal of $6 million. It has already secured more than $3 million in contributions.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the payments would extend over a total of 18 months, including a year postpartum.

The participants would also be offered financial counseling, home visiting, lactation support and doulas.

Reminds me of Canadian born comedian Martin Short.

I don’t know about now, but way back when, the Canadian government provided money (I can’t recall if it was a lump sum or monthly stipend) to women who had given birth in order to help them with the expenses of a newborn child. Diapers, baby formula, clothes, etc.

According to Martin in his autobiography, due to some quirk in the law, because Martin came from a large family (he was the 5th and the last child), the government couldn’t give his parents the money at the time of Martin’s birth. Instead, the money didn’t come in until Martin was a teenager. And because he was no longer an infant, the money had to go directly to Martin himself instead of his parents.

Martin bragged how he used some of the money to buy himself a reel to reel tape recorder and a case of scotch. (”Yay, socialism!”)

I can’t help but think how some tax paying middle class guys in canada are struggling and working hard to put food on the table and keep a roof over the heads of their families while their money is going to some pissant teenaged stranger so that he could buy himself a case of scotch and a tape recorder.

Democrats have a 50+ year history in American cities wasting taxpayer dollars on their socialist fantasies. Those programs don’t work. In the process they fail to deliver basic services. The government has zero business in picking winners and losers. Paying pregnant women just creates more useless welfare babies that will be dependent on government for everything.

The decline in pregnancies was actually a good thing. It’s called natural selection. The last thing the world needs is a bunch of feral pieces a chit being born.

And can they just abort the baby at month 9?

I have NO confidence this money is going to be spent on prenatal care.

I see hair braid extensions, tattoos, and hooch.

Only the ones that have some business and finance acumen.

Get pregnant, get a cool grand each month, get welfare and other freebies for life.

What a deal!

So they aren’t willing to admit that the money is given out by race. Instead they do it by neighborhood.

It is race-based, and therefore unconstitutional.

Now you know why all conservatives aren’t necessarily “pro life”. And why Miss Lindsey shooting off her mouth about a Federal Abortion Ban hurt us.

Money for these programs always gets filtered through well connected political allies of the city leaders. They always get their cut. For every $1000 going to the ‘birthing person’ $10,000 will go to the “Outreach Program.”

Time to move to Philly.

I could identify as a pregnant woman for the next 20-30 years.

Does that include married women, or just the baby-daddy mamas?

How about the baby daddies pay $1K a month, nationwide?
