A San Francisco district supervisor is calling for more policing in the crime-ridden city – despite advocating to defund the police in 2020.
Hillary Ronen, Democrat, represents District 9 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. During a Budget and Appropriations Committee meeting on Wednesday, she made an impassioned plea to add more officers to the Mission District, which she represents.
Ronen was attacking San Francisco's police chief for spending a large amount of overtime on an anti-retail theft program instead of prioritizing police presence in her district.
"I've been begging this department to give the Mission what it deserves in terms of police presence all year long," Ronen said. "And I have been told time and time and time and time again there are no officers that we can send to Mission."
"It hurts. And I feel betrayed by the department. I feel betrayed by the mayor. I feel betrayed by the priorities of the city," the Democratic politician added.
The speech contradicts her stance on policing in 2020. After the George Floyd protests, Ronen tweeted that she believed "strongly" that San Francisco's police force needed to be reduced.
"I want to make it clear that I believe strongly in defunding the police and reducing the number of officers on our force," Ronen wrote. "For decades we’ve had an imbalance in our city’s budget, with hundreds of millions of dollars going to SFPD to have them do work they are not qualified to do."

Wait a minute. I thought the whole point of defunding the police was to replace them with social workers who wouldn’t kill the odd black criminal in those tense moments. What’s this wanting police after all?

When “defund the police!” was trending, she trended.
When disgust with crime is trending, she is pro police.
And so forth.
She is up for reelection in 2024.

The RAT donor class in the Bay Area can’t be too happy seeing that the crime and filth are now affecting their areas too and are probably giving Hillary and the rest of the elected RATS in SF an earful!

After fighting to create Mental Health SF which redirects funds to mental health care crisis teams instead of police, I believe without a shadow of a doubt that SFPD is not where we should be putting our money.
But we have a big fight on our hands to make these cuts happen.
I suppose she has had a change of mind......
Two tragedies in life - not getting what you want and getting it.
Kind of funny. I recall a time in New York City decades ago when they had a horrible crime problem, and then they got this mayor who worked with the chief of police to attack crime where it was happening and arrest and convict criminals and suddenly for a long time NYC was a really safe place. What was his name again, Giuliani something or other. Hateful conspiracy theorist and J6 terrorist.
Sounds to me, like the San Francisco police need to spend less time and effort on her district. Put the officers in any areas actually asking for more officers on a consistent basis before and after the summer of love in 2020.
Let the areas who now all of a sudden are on the we want more police bandwagon, suffer after demanding the defund them.

The point about her is that she’s not even vaguely American.
She was born in the mid 70s when the United States were already 200 years old and the most powerful country on Planet Earth, no thanks to her or anyone in her family.
But they wanted to help themselves to the good stuff. Little First Generation Ronen had nuthin but the best: UCSD, UCB, a fat job in SF and a sumptuous house in the rapidly gentrifying Bernal Heights.
For the descendants of the White Anglo Saxon Protestants who settled California, built these institutions?
