I don’t usually use DoorDash, but a couple months ago I had to use it for a guest. A driver came to my side door, and gave me one item from the order, and he was angry and said something about no tip. But I had given a generous tip. I found out later they split the order in two and gave all the tip to one of the drivers, but I had no control over them doing that.

No one wins with these new business models.

I gave a waiter a $10 tip on a $50 lunch for the wife and I at a nice, but not upscale restaurant. He was insulted and asked if I really meant to give him a $10 tip. I was tempted to say ‘no’, and take it back, but he did an ok job (not that he actually had much to do in our case). I guess a 20% tip doesn’t mean much any more.

Anyone that angrily bothers a customer over a tip should have their butt fired immediately.

He was complaining about a 20% tip?

This is one where I prefer the way Europeans do things. Tips are left for only extraordinarily good service, then it is just a few Euros, if that. And now they have tip buckets out everywhere, it is ridiculous.

I am a Door Dash driver, and I can tell you that if the driver didn’t like the amount being offered, she didn’t have to take the trip. I am in my third year as a driver and I really do try to make the customer my very top priority. The problem with Door Dash is that they do not interview or screen their drivers. They take anyone as long as they pass a background check. My clients know what to expect when I am their driver, and I get the same impression of other drivers along my route. We’re a good bunch who really care about what we do. I am really upset by the rotten apples who give Door Dash drivers a black eye. I wish DD would screen their drivers. As for the tips — this is how drivers make any money. Door Dash pays next to nothing. I wish Door Dash would explain to their clients that we use our own gas and cars. That is why there is griping from drivers about tip or lack thereof. But again, I reiterate — drivers do not have to take any order they do not want or agree with.

I am a Door Dash driver, and I agree with you. DD should penalize any driver who feels entitled enough to demean a client.

They need to pay people a decent wage. Tips should not have to be used for livelihood. Two dollars an hour is atrocious.

Do you automatically feel obligated to always leave a 20% tip? If mediocre service can generate that much of a tip, what incentivizes somebody to do a good job serving you?

I have never given a tip to a doordash driver.

Probably cause i have never used doordash or uber eats.

I know someone who drives and he bitches about $2 tips.

He knows the good restaurants that dont make him wait, and rejects those who do, and long trips.

Sounds like this driver is low IQ

One reason to not eat out - no mater how bad or mediocre the service, they expect to be tipped like your wallet is theirs.

“I guess a 20% tip doesn’t mean much any more.”

Los Angeles, Seattle, and many other Blue Cities and states already mandate a Living Wage, so the tip is built-in price of the menu items...therefore I don’t tip in those places when I visit.

Whenever I order something out, I ALWAYS do carryout. It's basically the same thing, it's going in a car regardless.

You're not saving time and the food stays in your car, not some fat prick's car where he can munch on your stuff while he's delivering to you.

All restaurants should abolish delivery service they would save money while reducing their menu prices.

Otis B. Driftwood : Do they allow tipping on the boat?

Steward : Yes, sir.

Otis B. Driftwood : Have you got two fives?

Steward : Yes, sir!

Otis B. Driftwood : Well, then you won’t need the ten cents I was gonna give you.

Ridiculous. 20% is MORE than enough.

The business model sucks. The key link in their chain is a driver that is not paid enough and who relies on tips? Tips that are not explained in the price of the service?

A DD driver is a chump for taking the deal and making their business betting on the come.

The outrage never ends. We have to bring up stuff that happened 2 years ago to be outraged about since we obviously don’t have enough to worry about in our own lives. Let’s all take sides you take the side of the driver and I will take the side of the customer and we can debate it until we get to the point of calling each other names and wishing we were dead or canceled. It’s very healthy for us to get worked up over a video that will appeal to our base emotions. Especially when it keeps us divided. What difference does it make which elite oligarchs are running our country when the injustice of tipping or not tipping is left unaddressed?
