Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington, the southern rock band's last surviving original member, has died at the age of 71.
"It is with our deepest sympathy and sadness that we have to advise, that we lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossington, today," the band posted Sunday evening on Facebook.
His cause of death was not immediately clear.
Rossington cheated death on multiple occasions, Rolling Stone reported. In 1976, he survived driving his vehicle into the tree. One year later, he survived a plane crash that killed the band's lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines.
Very nice sir. Ty

Great story. And a haunting, beautiful version of a rock classic.
Saw them in 73 when they opened for the Who at the Capital Center. Most people weren’t familiar with LS or didn’t know much about them at that time but they blew the doors off the Cap Center and everyone knew who they were when it was all over.
Good memories!
Thank you. Yes haunting is the word I used when I heard it.
Good one! I remember a bit Bill Hicks used to do: “Two things will survive a nuclear war—bugs & Keith Richards!”
That is sad about Rossington, though. Guess I’ll go play some Skynyrd.
Turn it up!
