Shortly after a Biden administration official boasted about how the federal government might ban gas stoves for being “unsafe,” the White House reassured the public that no such ban was in the works.
We warned readers at the time not to believe such reassurances because “once this sort of train starts moving there is often no stopping it.”
That was in early January. It took less than a month for the Biden administration to prove us right.
Earlier this month, the Department of Energy released a proposed rule that, if implemented, would essentially regulate gas stoves out of existence.
The new proposed rule comes despite the fact that the same federal department had decided in the past that – aside from an existing ban on always-lit pilot lights – efficiency mandates on gas stoves didn’t make much sense, since all they do is burn natural gas.
But Biden’s regulators decided to ditch common sense, insisting that appliance makers could squeeze out more heat through new designs.
The industry, which knows a thing or two about building appliances that customers want and can afford, recognizes BS when it sees it.
“This approach by DOE could effectively ban gas appliances,” Jill Notini, a vice president of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, told Bloomberg. “We are concerned this approach could eliminate fully featured gas products.”
She says that 95% of the market would not meet the proposed levels.
Why the attack on gas stoves? Because they burn gas. And no matter how efficient they are, climate change fanatics will push to get rid of them because and only because of that.
But rather than admit this upfront, Biden officials keep trying to sneak their radical agenda through by claiming it’s all about “safety” or “efficiency.”
As Karen Harbert, president of the American Gas Association, put it, “We are concerned that this is another attempt by the federal government to use regulations to remove viable and efficient natural gas products from the market.”
The Biden administration says not to worry because even though the gas stove rule would impose huge costs, consumers will all save money in the long run.
This is, if you will excuse the pun, textbook gaslighting. One of the “benefits” the Department of Energy includes in its calculation is the “social cost” of carbon dioxide, a fiction that the left wants to use to justify a virtually unlimited number of cumbersome, intrusive new rules.....
Wood stoves have been regulated for years, thus the newer combustion methods.
Isn't that the truth? We finished building a new house last year, complete with many of the new, "high-efficiency" appliances.
While the washer & dryer we retained from our previous house, the dishwasher is terrible. It's a mid-to-higher priced model...very quiet, but runs for a long time and its cleaning power is questionable. We recently installed a water softener which seems to help with the cleaning, but it's a long way from earlier model dishwashers.
Additionally, as we bought an in-cabinet oven, all-electric was our only choice. Bad mistake. Takes about 15 minutes, maybe longer, just to pre-heat to 350 degrees.
“washing machines that can’t get dirt out of jeans”
I do wear denim jeans, but they all are perma-stained with a grey brown cast, definitely not blue denim.
But my eyesight isn’t great, and my wife loves her top load Speed Queen and thinks the laundry is clean. So there’s that.
I could not care less about the efficiency of a cooking method. Gas the better method and that is all that matters
Since working on bikes gets jean dirty, I not only us $11 black jeans (last year: now $13.00) and Fast Orange waterless hand cleaner,, but spray the greasy parts with Oil Eater Degreaser . Try not to breath it though. Thank God we can get such.
I swear by my Speed Queen washer. Their top loaders are the only washing machines on the market that still have an actual agitator. I live and work on a farm and my jeans and overalls come out super clean.
I have an OLD Frigidaire electric stove. Came with the house. Works great. It has those monster sized coils - not the weenie ones like today’s models. It works fine. The only attribute I can find over a gas stove is that the whole deal stays hot after the power is turned off. A bit of extra cooking or warming can be planned ahead of time.
I think this is another indication of the fact the ruling elite no longer feel like they will have to face the voters. They always double down.
They do this on the vax, on the border, on ESG scores, on climate change, on censorship ect ect.
It appears the climate change fanatics have been sniffing the gas to much they always have brain fog.
“Doctor” Jill is off for a vacation in Africa. I wonder what the hell she’s after over there. Handing out “Reparations” applications?
Bidumb and Associates are after anything and everything that makes our lives easier and more enjoyable.
He will have to pry my Viking from my cold dead hands.
I have a Wolf gas stove. Same here.
Pro tip:
Before running the dishwasher turn on the kitchen faucet until hot water comes out. This will ensure the dishwasher cycle starts with all hot water. Dishes will be cleaner.
But I agree. Federal “efficiency” rules suck. Dishwashers should have a choice between powerful or energy efficient.
