Knew a family restaurant, also Italian, that did that in NYC. Added on behind the kitchen with its own entrance. Maybe a dozen tables-for-two, a small service bar, waitress always at the ready, low lighting and a jukebox with NO loud, raucous music. They called it “The Intimate Room”
One time I took my girl there for her birthday before going out on the town. She couldn’t believe it when the waitress brought out a birthday cake with candles. (I had dropped them at the kitchen on my way home from work) The other couples there sang “Happy Birthday” without any prompting and were rewarded, as well as the waitress and cook, with some cake.

Hard to believe that was 45 years ago....different world.
Thanx for the trip down “Memory Lane”

My favorite movie theater (dine-in style) doesn’t allow kids. Mostly I’m sure because their expensive recliner chair would be dumb kid traps (I’ve seen a few dumb adults have issues), but also the atmosphere. It’s a place for adults to have a beer and a burger while they watch a movie. It’s quiet.

About fifteen years ago, we went out to Pizzeria Uno with guests from out of town, including their two boys who were ages four and six. The boys ran around the restaurant, crawled under tables, threw napkins, straws, and food, etc. Their parents were oblivious. Flash forward fifteen years and one of the boys is gay and the other thinks he’s a girl.

Agree the restaurant should be allowed to have a feral cage if the parents want to bring their crotch fruit to the restaurant or teach them how to behave in public.

Many years my spouse and I were traveling for the first time with our baby who was about 7 months.

We stopped at the hotel then went to the downtown for earl dinner. We were starved and walked into the first resturaunt and were seated and the baby was placed in a high chair.

Then we looked around and realized we were in a very fine dining place. Do we leave? The server said they could serve certain entrees quickly. We took a chance. The restaurant was almost empty.

However it filled quickly.

As our entrees arrived the baby fussed. We were ready to pay and leave. The server and the owner came to our table and asked whether they could take the baby and show her off to the staff. Were finished our meal and four that two people and some balloons were used to keep the baby laughing and quiet at the server station.

They saw our exhaustion and embarrassment and were kind. It was 35 years ago.

Todays' parents act like they don't see the bad behavior.

Yup. They let their kids run around screaming.

"That was a decent amount for lunch in 1960 for a kid."

I was the baby of the family. My three older siblings had already graduated from high school, were all working, and paying $100 room and board each month, which allowed my mother to splurge on lunch for me. When I graduated high school in 1965, and went to work full-time, I had to pay the same amount of room and board as my siblings.

I’d get my butt beat in the restaurant, in the car going home and again at home.

Not sure what folks thought... I had dropped her off at my mother-in-laws house about a block away.

Now that is funny. ๐Ÿ˜„

I knew there had to be some explanation for that dollar. It hit my eye as extravagant.

“Hey, thatโ€™s a really good idea.”

You know how parents are. All would demand a refund. All would be offended and entitled.
