A Vanderbilt math professor criticized the subject for being too "white" and "cisheteropatriarchal" in a lecture he presented at a major mathematician conference earlier this month.
Luis Leyva, an assistant professor of mathematics at Vanderbilt Peabody College of Education and Human Development in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Joint Mathematics Meeting on January 4 delivered a lecture titled "Undergraduate Mathematics Education as a White, Cisheteropatriarchal Space and Opportunities for Structural Disruption to Advance Queer of Color Justice."

Excellence is not limited by station, but is limited by exposure. When Rush spoke of “the bigotry of low expectations “, he accurately blamed the lack of success for any number of students on a society that says “well, they can’t do that kind of stuff.” Biden pointed out Obama as being clean and articulate. How racist is that?
I use that “I’m offended that you’re offended” because of the absurdity of the statement. Wasn’t meant personally 😊
Whew! I posted before reading all of the posts…
I have Sometimer’s disease. If i read all of the posts beforehand , i will forget whatever I thought was important to say.
That is me too! :)
Didn't really think it was, but my response was just so no one misunderstood my other response to Travis. 😊
Yes, all these claims are exactly that, the bigotry of low expectations. But they are also opportunities to bash white males for the world's ills. The fact that we changed from our bigotry of low expectations to make sure that they have the same opportunities means nothing. All they are managing to do with this nonsense is make us rethink our positions, because they have become the ones who now carry forth the bigotry of low expectations. Thus, nothing has changed, so we might as well just rejoin them with that thinking. 🙂
The other line i use (especially with student doctors) is,” we are all equal, but we are not interchangeable. Everyone has a role to play”
Also, “ If you’re one in a million, you are not special. in a world of 8 billion people , you have 4000 chances to be a Below Average You”
Paraphrasing famous viral “You Are Not Special” speech by David McCullough Jr. at Wellesley High School in 2012
That’s a good line too. 🙂
They weren't born that way, they were taught to be that way by not being taught at all. 🙂
“Black queer undergraduates experience invisibility at the juncture of antiblack racism and cisheteropatriarchy in their campus environments.”
If they wish to survive, they better learn to add, multiply, and divide. This is started seriously in first grade and their inadequacies are well behind the curve. They can change the color of the objects they are working with if it assists their failures of a major part of basic education. But I ain’t buying into race or gender identity making them unable to perform tasks anyone has to accomplish to get by. This is one of the reasons they turn to crime. They only have to remember to count the amount of bullets discharged so they will know how many are left. Welcome to Chicago.

Media is always willing to spread lies it’s their business goal.
Well, that’s inarguably true. 🙂
Agree
The liberals think math is classical music. It can be replaced with jazz and no sheet music.
We should recognize the ‘cis-’ prefix in regards humans as the slur it is attempted to be.
Not only don’t use it. Don’t accept it. Add it to the dustbin of inherently offensive terms.
What about the grays?
Such a loss to the world, and possibly months away from a cure if he had not gone back to India.
