Even more complicated than he thinks: the Left was gaining immense political power through their “anti war” organization that really served as a pro-enemy/make America lose apparatus. They had gained control of the media and were adding new congressional members to support ending our involvement in Vietnam.
The NVA knew that they would never win while Nixon was still in office. When their 1973 Easter offensive was stopped by US bombing in response to their violation of the Paris Accords, it confirmed that Nixon meant business.
The Left provided the political muscle to oppose Nixon while the Watergate news ramped up.
If the CIA orchestrated the Watergate “scandal”, the Left made the outrage and opposition to order to carry out the coup.
A man I knew was a POW at war’s end. When they traveled to freedom he was amazed at the success of the bombings, after learning more he said the US would have won if they had maintained the attacks for a little longer.
It does sound like an insider’s takedown of the US.
