That seems like the very definition of a thermal.
That was my first thought
Is there video of the plume?
Isn’t that typically a decrease in altitude?
There are certainly active volcanoes in Hawai’i! I wonder if activity on was reported that day before that time.
Read ‘Airframe’. By Michael Crichton. A good read. (And also read his ‘ State of Fear’. A scary read about the bogus political creation of anthropomorphic global warming as a means of controlling the populace)
Had not seen that skit in 40 years.
The first puzzle pieces. An article about another 9-11 in the works a couple weeks ago. Buttplug suspending all departing flight a few days ago, Canada did the same on the same day. Raiding of a house im Colonie NY yesterday. Law enforcement and military receiving warnings of terrorist threats. Then this news. A picture of what’s happening behind the scenes is forming.
There are a lot of active climate change weather cells around. Airline pilots used to call them updrafts, down drafts, ground bursts etc.
Now its more CLIMATE CHA-CHING CHANGE. Most people I have met who are like this also have Trump Derangement Syndrome.
I think the human race is rapidly evolving and these people are being Darwin-ed out of our homo sapiens genome. .
It’s that pesky “Atmospheric River” again. Not surprisingly that particular term is not recognized by NWS/NOAA, but persists by the non-meteorological trained broadcast weather hacks.
To be fair there is a smattering of bonafide meteorological graduates scattered about...
Obligatory graphic.

Except this isn’t CAT. There was accumulating cloud that was recognized by the flight crew according to this article. Either they banged the way through rapid developing thunderstorm updraft or given that they were 40 minutes out I wonder if it was volcanic as Mona loa is doing its thing. Whatever it was it was bad. But there was some visualization of it.
Swamp gas.
Nowhere remotely near the flight path
At 37,000 feet over 200 miles out in the open ocean?
As usual nobody reads the article. From the article:
“Satellite imagery later reviewed by the report’s authors showed strong cells associated with a storm system moving toward Hawaii that were near the flight path, according to the report.”
Also NBC needs to find better human proof readers or AI proof readers..
One of the interesting facets of the human mind is the ability to see patterns.
The positive side is that allows us to make creative breakthroughs.
The negative side is that we can go crazy seeing connections that do not exist.
That is why the old expression was that there was a fine line between genius and insanity.
