Everyone knew that come January, the House was never going to be able to pass a funding bill with this chaotic situation.
Now, there's no real reason to even have a House of Representatives before September 30th at all.
This is the only argument that makes any sense to me, but that's assuming a govt. shutdown is a bad thing, because that probably would have happened. A govt. shutdown--especially 2 years before any elections-- is not an issue.

The job of Speaker is largely irrelevant, but the concessions these 20% are fighting for are very relevant, imho.
