I was diagnosed with a heart murmur by the Army shortly before my discharge. They actually gave me red dog tags which said ‘heart murmur’ on them. I tossed those in the trash within 50 yards of the infirmary. It was a pre military discharge physical. I never had a heart murmur in my life, but I told them of a childhood illness, so they gave me that crap.
Turns out that 10-15 years later I developed a stenotic Aorta. No Military Physician ever checked me for a murmur.
My mom was not tracked. She passed about 30 years ago and there just was not the follow up, nor the technology in those days.
It’s irrelevant at this point. It was enough to know that in spite of the doctor’s diagnosis and warnings, her heart kept her going in the end.
