I see no comparison between the move to defund Free Republic until the board owner is 'brought into compliance' and the apathy that brought America down.
I wrote a separate response to the current issue re troll policy that I was going to put on thread, but it's long and this stale topic has been already been rehashed at length today (with both recruiting/scolding of non recruits), so I'll post my opinion in Festival and just link it here.

Personally, I don’t consider myself part of a move to defund Free Republic, nor did I have any remaining expectation whatsoever that Jim would EVER moderate HG even one tiny bit.
It is what it is, and I don’t have a suitable substitute for FR, so I still send in $17 now and then.
That’s not recruitment, by the way, it’s just an observation.
But just seeing that Jim asked HG to please knock it off. That was new!

Complete mischaracterization. I never said that. Nobody has suggested this.
What I said was that my personal boundaries will not permit me to pay to be insulted, or for abusive language. I’d rather give that money to my church, rather than support insults and abuse, until such time as the personal attacks are resolved.. What I DID SAY was that the abusive poster can pay my donation for the quarter, even stating the amount due...hence forth no loss in revenue to this site. If he/she wishes to pay to be abusive to others, this is his/her choice, howver it is enterely reasonable to retain MY choice to not pay to BE insulted. Both of these posiions are fair and resonable.
On the matter of “defunding”...
There is not, nor has there ever been, a call to do any such thing here.
Any “defunding” (your term) is merely incidental to an already long term trend, in a steady drop in financial support, as seen through many quarters. Why is that occurring over time?
A few possibilities which I suspect.
*members have moved to other forums, for various reasons over time, as alternate sites came online.
*members have endured financial restricitons in a tough economy (covid, unemployment, retirement reductions in income).
To suggest that there is an active call to “defund” is both not supported in any comments and is disingenuous at it’s face.
This clarification must be posted, lest what I encouraged is misunderstood and errantly protrays me as being a troublemaker for the owners. NOTHING could be further from the truth than the claim that there is a nefarious effort at “defunding”.
I am merely living within my personal boundaries, which is a healthy life.

As long as we can enjoy the basic freedom of thought and opinion, and the privilege to post it, here, I will be found funding Free Republic and highly recommending we all help do that. (Let me straighten you out on that.)
I also appreciate the FR Rules and the authorized Admin MODS who try to enforce them. (I am not the insurrectionist you regularly and always colorfully attempt to make me out to be.)
As adults who post inside the FR Rules, we can generally decide between what is substance from what is stress, from some other guy/gal *needling another guy/gal. (The complaint is around on-going, persistent needling by a forum poster, thought to have gone unaddressed.)
Freepers generally like to count on Admin MODS tapping the knuckles of needling nabobs.
Retail is still retail.
I’m pretty sure the “board owner” does not need a refresher on much of anything, regarding *Retail.
Dissatisfied member-patrons-customers will often complain to Admin and, naturally, *hope for a solution, but they do *expect a reply. Best practices allows for that.
