Anyone else feel this is a big mistake backing a loser like McCarthy?
It has been obvious to any of us on FR for weeks that he doesn't have the votes to be speaker and all this would happen yet Trump has backed him with gusto.
He cannot possibly be speaker after all this and still has no where near the votes anyway.
I feel again Trump has made an error in who is supporting or promoting....
Because losers are all he has to choose from.
He doesn’t have to chose anyone. He could have stayed neutral and said it’s a matter for House Republicans which I feel should be his position...
probably because there’s no other viable option and he’s going to have to work with him in 2 years.
Trump is getting some bad political advice in my opinion and not for the first time
Putting the right men in the right places is the most important part of government. Finding places for the malcontents is the hardest. -Tallyrand-
Trump seems to have real trouble with both aspects of this.
Stay neutral then:
“It’s a matter for House Republicans”.
Now he’s going to look silly and the media will make sure of that.
So who else has the votes to be speaker?
In short, Art of the Deal.
He got McCarthy to give up Pelosi’s damning emails in exchange for his endorsement.
I think staying neutral would have been sensible considering we all knew what was going to happen.
Trump MUST have known Gaetz etc. would not be voting for McCarthy and therefore he didn’t have the votes
> “So who else has the votes to be speaker?”
When McCarthy finally throws in the towel, the McCarthy bloc will shift to Steve Scalise. And the Anti-McCarthy bloc will do the same.
Right.
Because Jeffries only needs 7 votes.
Seriously, the Republican’s House is on fire and they do not have a fire hose to put it out.
And the media will make sure to tell everyone Trump backed another loser
I know we dont care what they say but it can be somewhat damaging politically.
I feel the advice he is getting is bad.🙄
No one else had put their name in to run. It was likely that KM would win and Pres Trump wanted to support who he thought would likely be the winner. I don’t see a downside in supporting KM even if he loses now as it’s such a mess right now. Pres Trump is doing the right thing now and not saying anything except “We’ll see what happens”.
I don’t expect it from McCarthy, but if he were a statesman, he would withdraw his name. What a horribly weak show of leadership someone like this brings to the table in the crisis movement we are in for the Country.
And that source is very very very close to the former President. Closer than you can imagine.
Trump is good at many things but he has never been good at picking people who won’t stab him in the back first chance they get. Remember Sessions?
It is odd. Kevin stuck it to Trump on the J6 thingie.
