Technically no one has enough votes to be speaker. Proven by the 3 votes yesterday.
Yes, but McCarthy whether you like him or not, clearly has the most votes.
Trump may have felt obliged to step in because he understands, more than many here, that this clusterf*ck is making the republicans look like a clown act to the American people. It is destroying their credibility as a serious force for reform, even as we speak.
Yes McCarthy is weak tea at best but that is a problem the gop has inherited by their own neglect in not finding a more effective caucus leader during the last 20 years. One failed politician after another. It won’t be solved by a squalid mudfight in full view of a skeptical public and gleeful media.
Wow great post and I will check out that documentary
I want him to succeed as from my POV he was the best president in my lifetime and the first not to start a war or major conflict
But things like this don’t help do they
Trump has some bad habits.
Trust Sessions. 5-D chess.
McCarthy is just the latest incarnation of loser Republican House leaders, in the same vein as Paul Ryan and John Boehner. They are not fighters, they are compromisers (i.e., losers). They are Exhibit 1 in why the government keeps moving left.
Exactly. This meglomaniac is saying “I earned this”.....
True leaders don’t plead for leadership. They are chosen.
Trump is a smart businessman & a great patriot, but his political smarts are seriously lacking.
They would be committing political suicide voting for the rat.
“True leaders don’t plead for leadership. They are chosen.”
George Washington.
I think Trump wants McCarthy as Speaker so everyone gets to see how bad he is. Its all about bringing down the cabal.
He also can’t win upsetting the conservative constitutionalist wing of the party.
Rock to the left. Hard place to the right.
The “most” is still not enough as shown by 3 votes yesterday.
Indeed many of the voters said they won’t vote for him unless they get a committee seat period.
Suck ups always look out for self to hell for everyone else.
Trump is a realist on this issue. The clerk of the house of Reps will become the de facto speaker if the Rs stay paralyzed too long, The clerk is a liberal black woman who will totally favor the Dims.
That would be an example of nothing fails like losing. McCarthy being the loser in this picture.
Paul Ryan and Trump are on the 2 opposite sides of the Banana Republican party and both endorsed McCarthy..
That places McCarthy in a very delicate position.
Trump can help him.
Ryan can’t.
Trump is a Majority leader of a MAGA party that’s just itching to destroy RINOs as much as any Democrat..
And some may be willing to bring McCarthy/Ryan’s wing down..
Trump can help McCarthy.
Trump can humble McCarthy.
There aren’t a lot of options for McCarthy.
Dance to Trump’s tune..
Trump backing him gives many pause but Trump backs lots of people that eventually show the whole world what they really are:
See Bush,Bush, McCain,Romney for example.
Those were perceived on ‘our side ‘ till Trump.
McCarthy is doubted.
McCarthy is chosen to reveal what he really is made of.
Trump gives people an opportunity to blow it.
Like it or not, we’ve all had 6+ years of constant wake up calls about the R’s.
We’ve known the D’s..
Thanks to Trump
When Trump was elected President he had no control over who the GOP had in place as the House Speaker and Senate GOP leader. He's smart enough to know that it makes no sense to antagonize people in another branch of government who he can't control.
He has even less control over the process now.
When you see these 20+ "renegades" supporting Jim Jordan in the House Speaker vote even though Jordan is supporting McCarthy, you get the sense that these people either aren't very smart or they've got their own agenda in the works.
