In Afghanistan we were fighting the locals. In Ukraine we are helping the locals.

Different situation, different results.

i suppose i should read the article first...which makes the headline mis-leading.

"The US sent this equipment to Afghanistan to arm the Afghan security forces/alternative government we unsuccessfully sought to prop up'

I’m as sh*tty about how that all went down, as anyone. I deployed there in ‘02-03. Place is like Bedrock, only less civilized, except for Kabul and a few other places that catered to westerners and foreign aid workers.

But, this article is painting with a really broad brush. Admittedly, I didn’t read the whole thing but, did the author differentiate what was left/given to the Afghani’s versus what was actually US military equipment.

A member of the US military deploys with a weapon, they come home with one unless something happens to it.

And I do remember Pres Trump asking why certain gear wasn’t brought back home and he wasn’t satisfied with the standard “it’s more expensive to bring it home” response from DOD.

Everything Biden did and does is a reminder of what Trump warned everyone about what would happen and it did.

Rewards the stupid voters reaps.

Double proof midterm election

That slurping sound you hear is the thumb suckers at work.

The Taliban did NOT exist during the 80s. They didn’t come into being until late 94-95. We supported the Mujahideen, some of which went on to become the Taliban, while others became the Northern Alliance, the Taliban’s enemies.

“22,174 Humvee vehicles, nearly 1,000 armored vehicles, 64,363 machine guns, and 42,000 pick-up trucks and SUVs.”

22174 Humvees allows for a lot a scavenged parts. As you stated.
They can probably keep a third or more running. Same with the machine guns, SUVs, etc.

The Afghans are pretty good at keeping old Toyota/Datsun/Nissan pickups trucks running. Some are from the 1980s.

I despise Democrats with a purple passion! I can’t understand WHY the American people have allowed such shennaghans as they have perpetrated over the past 200 years. This is beyond comprehension!

If there must be an eventual showdown, then why wait until they are too powerful to defeat? If there is no showdown, then in the time-honored tradition of the American populace we will again sit on our butts untill it is too late and we are powerless. Nathan Hale and Patrick Henry are surely spinning in the graves!

BTW, Breitbart just deleted my post for including the word “AMEN”. Hell in a handbasket.....

Sickening. The government is awash in money, so much so taxpayers now fund our enemies. Incredible.

Then they were lousy Ukrainians, weren’t they?

“Sickening. The government is awash in money, so much so taxpayers now fund our enemies. Incredible.”

Mostly the taxpayers fund the offshore accounts of innumerable politicians and other scum. For every billion dollars we give to our enemies, politicians in DC get a more than generous kick-back. “10% to the Big Guy” isn’t just a meme.

Yet, the government continues to spend like drunken sailors.

This last omnibus spending bill was $1.7 trillion

1700 billions

the only saving grace... they don’t have parts to maintain the equipment

That would be true if they had only one truck or chopper or firearm.

The name didn’t exist but their beliefs did. The US gave them arms and who was the enemy? Russia, just like Vietnam.

Face it, we aided the Taliban.

“...allegedly abandoned weaponry includes up to 358,530 assault rifles, 126,295 pistols...”

Okay for our mortal enemies to have these but not us.

The flipside is, an armed Afghani government might be inclined to bulwark against its neighbors on all sides; or given Putlim’s chemobrained dementia he might very well decide to restart the old war of Soviet occupation.

cannibalizing what they have results in more equipment out of commission.

Well, it's not like they don't have a few extra to break up for parts.

They don't even have enough manpower to utilize a fifth of what we left.

cannibalizing will result in less functional equipment total, but they have enough to last them a lifetime, and still have serviceable vehicles and firearms.

They may need ammo after a while. I wonder where in the world they can get ammo?
