Merry Christmas. A song by Chrissy Hynde and the Pretenders.
This song was first released as a single in November 1983 and later on the 1984 Platitnum-selling album ‘Learning To Crawl’.
Nice to see someone in the music industry able to put principles above politics.
In a cesspool industry, Chrissy Hynde is one of the good guys. Thanks for posting her Christmas song.
Always one of my favorites.
I’ll check it out. Thx!

The *children* will sing.

He's gone 2000 miles
It's very far
The snow is falling down
Gets colder day by day
I miss you
The children will sing
He'll be back at Christmastime

2000 is a representative number that pops up in key places, even as the "big bet" that is the very first letter of the Torah. Or the Hope of 2000 years that is the national anthem of Israel.
Here's a place name that adds up to 2000. Famous the world over:
ארצות הברית של אמריקה
I think this song is about missing James Honeyman Scott, who was the original guitar player for the Pretenders who died at 25 of a heart attack from cocaine use. Brilliant guitar sound. Chrissie always said that since he died The Pretenders have been a tribute band, to themselves.
As sad as the backstory of this song is, and despite the video being so odd, this is my favorite Christmas tune and I play it repeatedly and never get tired of it. I guess it matches my own melancholy nature. Glad to know others like it, too.
The debut Pretenders album is a classic. They could never top it.
