Besides my goofy rescue greyhound, I’ll be solo this Christmas Eve. All is well. Had some solid family time with my kids last night, and will be with family tomorrow.
But, for now, I’m enjoying a salted caramel latte, basking in the glow of the Christmas tree lights and about to plug George Bailey and company into the old Blu-ray player.
Anyone else spending this Christmas Eve alone?
Mike Mulligan’s steam shovel in the background.
So sorry. Glad people will come ‘round tomorrow.
I can’t imagine
I’ve seen a lot of posts after you with similar situations and truly hope you have some peace and joy in some form and know a lot people you don’t know just thought about you all
Merry Christmas to everyone and know you aren’t ever really alone
Our family cohesion ended with my parents. So disrespectful to their memory. It happens.
So many familiar stories on these pages. We are not alone in our experiences. Are we?
Christmas has become more and more a time of reflection for me. In memory of His birth and our gracious salvation.
I think Christmas meant so much to my parents because of the separation and uncertainty of the War in the 40s. Being apart from home was not normal. In all the years I was out on a drilling rig somewhere, Christmas and so many other special days became just another work day with pleasantries to be delayed. It made me hard to survive it as it did my family.
We were going to have a Pineapple spiral ham dinner....my sons a great cook having managed in several 5 star restaurants - he's picked up some great skills and tips. In fact both my sons are great cooks but they sure didn't get that from me!
Thank you. He was truly my rock and the holidays are sad and lonely.
“I can beat Stouffers mac and cheese.”
4 years ago I went to an Amish grocery store with a friend on a day trip.
Found they had a dried cheese mix. Best ever mac and cheese!
Seeing now I can’t afford 4 hours of driving I will give Stouffers a try.
The first couple of years were really hard after my husband died. I was still greiving pretty bad. Eventually it eases somewhat but you still have moments. I would get flashes of good memories and that could get me tearing up
.
Being around your family will be really good for you. Enjoy those moments.
Merry Christmas and hope your day tomorrow will bring you some well deserved joy.
Prayers up for all who are missing their dearly departed, the sick, the shut-ins, the elderly, the military, essential workers, etc. and any others on their own this Christmas.
Very sorry to hear. Sounds as though your time with her was wonderful. That makes her much harder to lose but much easier to cherish her memory and your time with her. You will be even more grateful for that one day.
Daddy always reminded me to:
Live today
Cherish the past
And
Dream tomorrow
I pray your pain is somehow eased with time but that your good memories of her live in you for as long as you live.
Reliving memories of my parents, mom died just before Christmas in 2020, of cancer. Tonight I’m sitting at a friend’s, taking care of her. She has MS, and got a reaction to her treatment. Her dog is with me on the couch while she sleeps upstairs. It will be a quiet holiday.
Wow all that sounds very good.
Thanksgiving is usually a big event, drove 6 hours saw the boys and some in-laws, the two 18 month olds... lots if socializing. Got caught up, it was great.
The usual plan is walk colonial Williamsburg then chinese buffet... but it’s too cold. I saw it coming a week ago and prepped a standing rib, some sides, put a loaf in the breadmaker.
The ladies are stopping over on their Christmas day rounds.
Not a big fan of the mercantile aspect, cards got out, the stores have been very busy, it interrupts my “scheduled routine” haha!
Tomorrow starts at 0530.
Enjoy! I miss midnight mass. That stuff is unheard of these days.
May you all sense Gods greatest gift of all gifts to you this Christmas Eve...
Jesus our Savior to all who desire Him...
:) Merry Christmas Y’all
😆
Try Amy’s cheddar cheese with broccoli………best ever .
