Pretty sure those are WIND CHILL “feels like” temperatures, not actual air temperatures.
Here in southern Wisconsin it is currently -9 degrees with 25mph winds resulting in about a -30 Wind Chill Factor. Snow ended by sunset today.
Having plowed the driveway once today (a quarter mile long country driveway), I will plow again tomorrow after the wind fills the driveway back in with blowing snow.
Winter of 2018 we had actual air temperatures in the -30 range. That was brutal cold.
This winter we’ve had -10 to -15 already, so the freak out on -9 by the local media is silly.

Oh sorry, perhaps that map WAS actual temps from all recorded temps in the history of recorded temps.
I first read it as Record Temps for THIS weather event.
I will now duck, to avoid thrown fruit, and slink off to bed!

I dont think this cold wave is cold enough unless it burns the green winter weeds in my yard!
supposed to be back in the 50-60F range next week if this freeze dont kill em the weed killer is next!
