US could face coldest Christmas in YEARS as temperatures drop 'much below normal' and arctic air mass blitzes southern states: Freezing onslaught will bring major snowstorms and holiday travel chaos for millions

Much of the United States will either get a White Christmas or a bitterly cold one, as the forecasts for the country see snowstorms and temperatures in the deep south as low as the 20s.

Forecasters are warning of treacherous holiday travel and life-threatening cold for much of the nation as an arctic air mass blows into the already-frigid southern United States, with experts predicting the 'coldest Christmas in years.'

The coming week has the potential for 'the coldest air of the season' as the strong artic front marches across the eastern two-thirds of the country in the days before Christmas, according to the latest forecasts from the federal Weather Prediction Center.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 'major snowstorm' from the southwest and midwest to the eastern seaboard on next weekend, as Christmas arrives on Sunday.

According to AccuWeather, the storm may begin Wednesday in the Rockies, with snow potentially showing up as far south as Dallas and Nashville.

The storm will likely head toward the east coast, but as rain, as we hit the weekend, with one meteorologist telling the New York Daily News that flight delays and cancellations are to be expected.

Regardless of weather you get snow or just freezing rain, you can be expecting a chill as Santa arrives on the 25th.

'We're looking at much-below normal temperatures, potentially record-low temperatures leading up to the Christmas holiday,' said Zack Taylor, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The polar air arrives as an earlier storm system gradually winds down in the northeastern U.S. after burying parts of the region under two feet of snow.

It’s been sub-freezing here in Eastern Washington for the last 3 weeks. Expecting single digits by the end of this week but next week it’s finally supposed to get back into the high 30’s low 40’s

As long as that cold front doesn’t come in with a big windstorm.

I need to turn up the thermostats on my automatic stock tanks. Their set just right now for temps in the teens, but single digits is whole new ball game

Gonna be 21 in Pensacola for a low on Friday. I’m gonna be dripping my taps to prevent pipes from freezing.

Just heard the report that winds are going to increase Thurs fri and sat. And the wind certainly affects those cold temps.

It doesn’t appear we’re going to get much snow.

Oh yeah, those are awesome! We always had those for the baseball team when hubby coached!

My future DIL told me today not to worry, she has driven in snow all her life - but my concern is not the snow it is the blizzard conditions they are predicting later this week!

I usually enjoy 70 degree Christmas days in East Texas. February is usually very cold though.

Tent camping or camper camping?
Slept in freezing weather naked under a canvas tarp with a skinny Potawatomi woman (my wife at the time). We had a big fire going as well.

Ok that sounds bad. I am part Seneca Iroquois. Wife at the time was full blood Potawatomi. I don’t have any special/magic skills that makes me some kind of badass or something.i like being in the woods.

I do have alot of Scot blood, though. Lol

Meanwhile, NYS’s Deep State myrmidons have just joined the jihad against nat gas furnaces.

Well, we’ll see how folks with hear pumps make out this weekend, won’t we...

I’m disgruntled about the campaign against cotton clothing for cold weather outdoors survival in the cold. Yes cotton is bad when it gets really wet as it gives no insulation. But it is warm af when dry. Just keep it dry. Wear a wool or polyester base layer that wicks sweat. Use cotton thermals over that and and a waterproof shell on top to keep it all dry. You will stay really, really warm. I camp in the coldest weather imaginable and this really works.
