US could face coldest Christmas in YEARS as temperatures drop 'much below normal' and arctic air mass blitzes southern states: Freezing onslaught will bring major snowstorms and holiday travel chaos for millions

Much of the United States will either get a White Christmas or a bitterly cold one, as the forecasts for the country see snowstorms and temperatures in the deep south as low as the 20s.

Forecasters are warning of treacherous holiday travel and life-threatening cold for much of the nation as an arctic air mass blows into the already-frigid southern United States, with experts predicting the 'coldest Christmas in years.'

The coming week has the potential for 'the coldest air of the season' as the strong artic front marches across the eastern two-thirds of the country in the days before Christmas, according to the latest forecasts from the federal Weather Prediction Center.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 'major snowstorm' from the southwest and midwest to the eastern seaboard on next weekend, as Christmas arrives on Sunday.

According to AccuWeather, the storm may begin Wednesday in the Rockies, with snow potentially showing up as far south as Dallas and Nashville.

The storm will likely head toward the east coast, but as rain, as we hit the weekend, with one meteorologist telling the New York Daily News that flight delays and cancellations are to be expected.

Regardless of weather you get snow or just freezing rain, you can be expecting a chill as Santa arrives on the 25th.

'We're looking at much-below normal temperatures, potentially record-low temperatures leading up to the Christmas holiday,' said Zack Taylor, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The polar air arrives as an earlier storm system gradually winds down in the northeastern U.S. after burying parts of the region under two feet of snow.

I boil a kettle of water for 30 to 40 minutes. Going from 35& to 45% makes a huge difference in comfort. It’ll hold up for almost the whole day.

We just got slammed this past weekend with +18 inches of snow and power loss for over a day.

This weather system is alarming. It has all the ingredients of a major winter storm.

It’s very strong, high winds, it’s going to be cold until it warms suddenly and starts to rain. That usually ends in icing as the surfaces of objects don’t have a chance to warm before the rain hits them, and so the rain freezes on contact.

The snowpack, of those of us who have it, will become saturated, and then the temperature is expected to drop rapidly Friday evening to Saturday morning which will freeze the water logged snowpack into a brick of ice, and then the precip is as likely as not to change to a period of freezing rain or sleet , before switching over to snow again.

The winds are expected to remain high through Saturday.

Of course, all that rain on frozen ground will just run off, resulting 8n localized flooding.

Time will tell if it does play out like this, but I’ve seen it too often. At least we will be ready for this time. I’ll have all the laundry done, food cooked for reheating, wood stacked inside the house and the gas cans full.

If it gets colder, it must be global warming.

Let me guess. These colder than expected temperatures are all the fault of human activity and we need to give trillions of dollars to leftists in government to combat it.

How close was I?

I’m not looking forward to it. I’m too old to deal with extreme cold. LOL!

It’s supposed to be a low of 14 and very windy here on Thursday with a high of only 29. Miserable! And, it makes it so hard to finish up the final Christmas preparations.

We are supposed to go from 45 degrees to zero …in a single day Friday. COLD. Yet no snow. KentuckIana (so In and N Ky area as we call it) for the last 15 years or so seems to almost always miss the big snows, as usual the moisture will come in as rain and the cold will punch in behind it dry. Not like it was when I was a kid 77-78-79-80-81 all had big snows. Here is a pic of the Ohio around 77-78. I haven’t even seen any real ice in the Ohio in 40-45 years. 1-C28-DCB7-FDA5-4-FE5-A387-9427-F6-D3510-A

Several years ago, the National Weather Service predicted a warm winter because of global warming. When we had a cold winter instead, the leftist “climate scientists” said that it was definitely a result of global warming.

so far, the front range of colorado has had a relatively mild and dry winter, but it’s getting ready to go down to -12 in a couple of nights ... quite cold, but not unusual or record-breaking ... since i moved here in 1975, it’s been as low as -23 ...
