The niacin flush is nothing like hot flashes. Been there, done that. The only hard flush I got was when I got tired of playing with the small doses and took a 500mg. I’m extremely fair skinned and my flush covered my face, chest, arms, and the front of my legs. I didn’t want my husband to see it and panic, so I went outside on the deck in nearly 100-degree weather to wait it out. I had cold wash cloths on my face and arms.
If I try it again, I’ll do it in winter, not the middle of a hot Tennessee summer.
My poor Mother had the same reaction on her first dose. Now she’s a regular doser and off statins and bp meds. Her knees are better than ever and she doesn’t dread walking down stairs. The talk of knee replacement has vanished.
