If they can land the plane on auto pilot then I got no problem. But if they can’t there had better be another pilot on board. Cockpits are far to complicated for a normal person to be talked down.

You’re not supposed to land, you’re supposed to die.

“Is there anyone on board that can fly a plane?”
Would that even matter? If the pilot falls out of consciousness for whatever reason, isn’t he/she behind a locked and fortified door?

I don’t know what everyone is worried about. The WEDF (’D’ for ‘Destruction’) is going to reduce the need for 2/3 of all commercial aircraft, because they are going to greatly reduce the number of useless eaters.
And of the other third, travel will be severely reduced to save the planet. So there will be plenty of pilots glad to fly so they can eat and have a 200 sq ft home.

In the future there will just be a pilot and a dog in the cockpit. The dog’s job will be to bite the pilot if he touches anything.
Ultimately, the airlines want one pilot and no flight attendants. Labor is expensive, dogs are cheap. Dogs will work only for food.

I don’t like flying now, if this gets approved I won’t be flying at all.

Passenger liners could operate entirely unmanned except the flying public is not ready at this time to accept pilotless airplanes. Sully Sullenberger is available for consultation.

Passengers who are seated at emergency doors are asked by the stewardess if they are willing and able to operate those door in an emergency.
They could just add on the part where they may also have to land the plane.

I would think the cost of two versus one pilot would be insignificant compared to the cost of the plane(amortized), fuel, AC maintenance, ground/baggage crew, cabin crew, and a flight’s share of a terminal.

After that.. one engine and one pilot.
= = =
And, then ...
no engine and one pilot or
one engine and no pilot?
