Given events since Trump’s departure, he should be in the driver’s seat. But he is not.
Team Trump has sometimes compared Donald Trump’s current quest for a nonsequential second term to two-term President Grover Cleveland’s similar three election bids.
Cleveland remains our only elected (1884) president to have lost a reelection bid (1888)—in a disputed vote—only to be reelected four years later (1892).
Yet Trump seems determined instead to follow a different, and bullheaded, Teddy Roosevelt model.
Roosevelt left the presidency (1908), sat out four years, and then lost a reelection bid in 1912, split and alienated the Republican Party, and ensured the election of the progressive Woodrow Wilson.
Joe Biden’s first “corrective” two years have been an utter disaster.
Biden birthed hyperinflation. He destroyed a secure border and Trump’s energy self-sufficiency. Crime is now out of control. The United States was humiliated abroad in Afghanistan. Rising interest rates will soon spark a recession.
After promising to unite the country, Biden smeared half the voting population as “un-American” and “semi-fascist.”
In addition, almost all of Trump’s prior complaints, predictions, and assertions that the media dismissed as conspiratorial, or crackpot have proven eerily prescient.
Hunter Biden’s laptop was all too authentic.
The FBI was compromised and acted as an agent of the Democratic Party. Anthony Fauci proved a partisan.
Russian collusion was an utter hoax. It was engineered by Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee, and the FBI.
The Wuhan lab did likely birth the engineered COVID virus. That fact was covered up by the media and public health establishments.
Donald Trump did not take “nuclear codes” to Mar-a-Lago. He did not plan on hawking his presidential papers for profit.
Germany did weaken NATO. Berlin was foolish to mortgage its future with energy dependency on a hostile Vladimir Putin.

I'm not being confused or demoralized. I am looking at what is going on and talking to ordinary people on a regular basis, conservatives, independents, liberals in a very red part of my state. I am listening to them and not just to supporters.
Now, I qualified my opinion with the post-election timeframe we are now in with all of the bitterness and kick Trump while he is down mood which should change and get better and then we will see where he stands and if he responds in a positive way like touting what he did when he was president, supporting the little guy and America, etc...He needs to get back on track.
I read the article and it barely moved my needle.
I will be voting for Trump in 2024.
Then you will be working to elect Democrats which, since 2018, has been the one accomplishment that Donald Trump has been most successful at achieving.
Where else are you going to go? That’s a ringing endorsement for a candidate. I will just vote for the Constitution Party candidate as I did in 2016 and down ballot according to political stances. I guess I just don’t get the slavish devotion to Trump, but hey to each their own.
Trump was not the only one robbed in 2020. Look at Trump's crowds where ever he goes, while the news and both parties try to pin the Republican's midterm "failure" on him. He has a huge base of pissed off supporters waiting for 2024.
The GOP seems to be doing a good enough job on their own electing democrats. They do not need my help or vote.
“How does it feel?”
Like voting for a third Bush.
Not what I’d prefer, but better than a Dem.
Well must be nice to live in never-never land, granted Trump has a large base but without the Independents, women and sizeable Latino and African American vote it will be tough for Trump to win...Now adding the GenX and Z votes not to even mention out right vote stealing.
I have voted for Trump every chance, donated couple grand to him as well but you are not understanding the Voters are fickle and frankly are as corrupt and somewhat evil for the most part as the Democrats would not be getting reelected as the Voters are voting for people they identify with...
“Dim and GOPe take Trump’s statements literally not seriously. Conservatives take Trump’s statements seriously not literally.”
I forget who first made this well-crafted observation. You are right to repeat it, because it is still true! I think VDH makes the same mistake with regard to Trump and the Constitution.
It almost seems as though everyone is out to get Trump. I think it’s telling.
America has been on a downhill slide for a long, long time. The contest between the crazy socialist party and the moderate socialist party has, ultimately, only one result. I’m ready for Americans to make a choice in 2024. If we can get honest elections, and choose wrongly, we have only ourselves to blame.
Sadly for Trump, he never will be a smooth talking politician which is the ONLY way to win presidency. Ronald Reagan was 10 times smoother than Trump will ever be. The mass of voters are basically low information, many will vote for free stuff candidate, and the 15 week limnit for abortions proposed by senator Graham was the final nail in the coffin for the red wave. The other nail was FREE stuff offered by Biden to College loans people.
Does he ever get around to making the point in the headline?
> “ talking to ordinary people on a regular basis, .....”
Anecdotal. Only supports you talk to people that are influenced by the liar media. Ask them why and you’ll see them stutter “uh”, “everybody uh”, “his ego uh” or go silent, or they’ll offer confused, unfounded anecdotes like yours.
Such people were there in 2015, 2016. Ignore them or politely ask them why.
Add up all Trump’s crowds and then divide by 150 million or so votes casted in 2020. It is a small number!
Trump lets his ego get in the way of himself, he is a brawler and people today freak out over that, hurts their sensitive feelings.
Don’t feed the animals. Bert is a crank.
Which republican is going to do things “different” to your satisfaction?
YUGE difference between 2016 & 2024.
In 2016 Hillary was the reason repulicans came out of the woodwork to vote against Hillary. Also Trump’s personna was pretty much unknown to masses of voters.
In 2024, Trump has been so much vilified by Media, Democrats, RINO’s, etc so much, aided by mean Tweets and making more enemies than friends, his chance of winning in general are no better than General Custer. I will vote for Trump is he is the nominee but my betting money will be on his opponent.
Yes, sad but true.
I think it is a rhetorical question. He does not think Trump is doing what he needs to do to have a successful run. I happen to like Trump’s brashness, but I understand that white, single, suburban women don’t (even though many are living off the divorce proceedings of their successful, brash ex-husbands).
