It was once said of Miami, “will the last Americans to leave, please lower the flag on their way out.” So, as the United States fades, at least lower the flag and keep that as a memory of what once was, and could be again.

And has the last American already left Miami? Is Miami "no longer American?"

I first read that remark in the 1980s. Has it now, 40 years later, been proven true?
