It was once said of Miami, “will the last Americans to leave, please lower the flag on their way out.”

And has the last American already left Miami? Is Miami "no longer American?"

I first read that remark in the 1980s. Has it now, 40 years later, been proven true?

Serious question.

Perhaps the idea of an American has changed since the 80's. It certainly isn't the same city is was then. It's far more Latino today. Personally, I enjoyed the Cubanos and their businesses in Miami Beach. They reminded me of South Philly Italians in some ways.
