The University of Colorado has announced that former NFL star Deion Sanders will be the school's next head football coach.
"There were a number of highly qualified and impressive candidates interested in becoming the next head football coach at Colorado, but none of them had the pedigree, the knowledge and the ability to connect with student-athletes like Deion Sanders," Colorado Buffaloes Athletic Director Rick George said Saturday evening.
Sanders, 55, previously coached three seasons of college football, finishing 27-5 at Jackson State University in Mississippi.
Known as "Prime Time" during his nine Major League Baseball seasons and 14 NFL seasons, Sanders, also an NFL hall of famer, has since been given the nickname "Coach Prime." His first game at Colorado will be Sept. 2.
"Not only will Coach Prime energize our fanbase, I'm confident that he will lead our program back to national prominence while leading a team of high quality and high character," George said.
NFL Ping!.................
Boulder to become West Hotlanta?…
Colorado to get real football team....................
I think in this day and age of NILs and transfer portal moves, Deion will build a solid program in Colorado.
Given how many coaches get hired that are terrible, some get hired multiple times and fail each time, Deion deserves a chance at a Power 5 school.
one thing for sure...the man knows how to recruit....he got the top rated player in the entire nation to commit to Jackson State...
I have heard him speak. He inspires people to do not just their best, but the best possible for anybody...........................
They were decent for a bit quite some time ago. (1990)
I remember Eric Bieniemy…
I also recall Georgia Tech and Ken Swilling then.
Good for him.
He has a big job to do to bring Colorado back to competitiveness. And it is my humble opinion that it will always be more about Deion than about the particular coaching position he is in.
Snowflakes play football? Who knew.
Yeah it’s been awhile.
I remember some guy named Spurrier, back then.................😎
Deon will make that team work their butts off and be happy while doing it..............
The Ol’ Ball Coach...
They can’t really be much worse than they already are and Deon can bring in enough talent to at least become .500
“I remember Eric Bieniemy”
He’s not gone - calling plays for the chiefs on the sidelines every week
Neon Deion?
You can’t spell citrus without the UT.
Free Shoes University, another classic. Miss the old ball coach.
I had no clue, good for him.
