A FedEx driver confessed to abducting and killing 7-year-old Athena Strand after he delivered a package to her family's home, Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said at a press conference Friday night.

Police found Strand's body southeast of Boyd, Texas. Digital evidence and interviews lead investigators to believe that Strand died within an hour of her abduction, according to Akin.

It is not cruel and unusual punishment because it isn't punishment at all.   It is the just and proper elimination of an ongoing threat to society.

The article said she was at the end of their driveway, on her own property.

An autopsy of the Perp may or may not reveal what’s wrong with his brain.

Regardless, an autopsy of him needed asap.

These evil people act on an uncontrollable impulse and once the act is committed (rape of a child), the shame and fear of being caught push them to murder quickly.
Hang them.

If kids were not so readily available we’d see a lot less of this going on. hey still run all over the malls and such un supervised.

I would watch for my kids to get off that school bus every day and same at the mall’s (when you could go to the mall)......as for my grands, no way....we’d go to the mall to eat but I’d take them to school...;)

Nice touch but I’d prefer piano wire and a meat hook.

You can’t tell me the step mother wasn’t culpable some way, some how.

I can. I am a personal friend of the grandfather of this girl. The step-mother was cooking supper and Athena was in her room at last knowledge. At some point, she snuck out of the house. The step-mom went to get Athena and she wasn't there. Enough of blaming parents in this case.

I stand corrected……

….all the first reporting of this said the 7 yr old left because of an argument with her stepmother
I couldn’t imagine a little 7 year old coming home after a long day at school and encountering an argument so bad that she fled the house

But you know more than I

From Mark Strand - Athena’s Grandfather

“I can’t quiet my mind and I have to share this. A friend just asked me the other day if I believe God speaks to people? I happen to know He does, as He is speaking to me now. This flesh, this man that I am, is angry and I want 5 minutes alone in a cell with the psycho that took our Athena away from us, but there’s a soft gentle voice in the back of my head telling me I need to forgive him. This flesh man, wants that psycho to burn in hell for all eternity, yet that gentle voice continues to tell me, I need to forgive him. This flesh man hopes he remains blind and deaf to the message of salvation and never sets foot in the same heaven that I know in my heart my darling Athena resides in now and yet, that gentle voice persists. Why you ask? Because Hate is a powerful force that will take root in your soul. God wants to protect us all from that hate. Hate is the gateway for the Evil we see growing in the world today. If you stood that man before me right now, because of the hate that’s trying to root itself in my mind, I would probably kill him. Then that hate would root itself in my heart and I would be destroyed. That gentle voice is the Holy Spirit of God speaking to me right now. He’s reminding me that my savior Jesus, willingly laid Himself on a cross and died in my place to reconcile me to God the Father, but also that He did that for All of Us, even this man that my flesh so Hates at this very moment. I am a sinful man, yet I’ve heard this voice before and I miss hearing this voice. If I allow this hate to consume me, that voice will fade and eventually be silenced. Then that ugly spirit of hate will have succeeded and that’s why this gentle voice persists to tell me I need to forgive this man. It’s for my protection and my peace. It’s to set me free from this hate and allow me to continue to hear God’s gentle voice. There’s not one ounce of my flesh that wants to do this or say this, but my spirit has heard God’s voice and right now, while tears flood my eyes, I declare publicly that I forgive this man! Hate will not win. I hope my family will understand that I don’t do this for the sake of this man. I do this for the sake of my family and myself and to Honor the voice of God who is giving me the strength to say this. I do this to honor our precious Athena who knew no hate. This man won’t be allowed any real estate to live in my brain, he belongs to God and God’s justice will done. Love Conquers All and Forgives. Today, I choose Love and hate loses.”

There are some confusing issues here to think about.

He “forgives” yet wants God’s justice to be done. Is that forgiveness? What he is really doing is trusting God and giving the situation over to Him.

There is much confusion about forgiveness. We think we know what the Bible says, and remember forgive 7 times 7, but there is much more to it than that.

Note the relationship between forgiveness and repentance.

Luk 17:3 So watch yourselves! “If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive.
Luk 17:4 Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.”

For forgiveness to be complete there must be repentance. Note the word complete. It is possible to have one or the other but to be complete there must be both.

Is our forgiveness of sin from God complete?

My point is there is a difference between forgiveness and trusting God. Do not confuse the two.

I would only hope I would arrive at trusting God, like this individual has.

Thanks for the comments. No doubt you are more educated on scripture than I am. However, I found this in Coffman’s Comments. It may or may not align with what you’re saying.

3

Take heed to yourselves: if thy brother sin, rebuke him; and if he repent forgive him. And if he sin against thee seven times in a day, and seven times turn to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

Jesus often taught on the subject of forgiveness. Just about the longest parable in the New Testament regards this very thing (Matthew 18:20-35); and there is no need to make Luke’s account here a “variable” of other teachings of Jesus in similar words and different circumstances. In fact, there is a little different thing in view here, namely, a warning against withholding forgiveness (when it has been asked for). Nor can we agree with Wesley that “forgiveness is due only to real penitents.”[5] Summers was nearer the true meaning of Jesus when he wrote:

It is foreign to the intent of Jesus to ask, “But what if he does not repent?” ... The follower of Jesus is not justified in holding a spirit of unforgiveness just because no apology is offered. That would put the responsibility for the Christian’s attitude upon the offender; and that Jesus would never do.[6]

This subject is more extensively developed in this writer’s my Commentary on Matthew, Matthew 6:14-15. As a matter of fact, if one is going to forgive only those sinners against himself who repent and request it, he will not forgive anyone ten times in a lifetime! Besides that, what about those cases in which men sin against others WITHOUT EVER BEING AWARE that they have done so? And in religious matters, many sins are committed unintentionally (see John 16:2).

****

Thanks again. :)
