That lawyer conveniently forgot, or perhaps he didn’t because it was in the closing arguments and not where the opposing counsel could directly object, the presidential election of 2000 which went, iirc, all the way to SCOTUS.
(To be sure, the final closing was to Lake’s lawyers. However, bringing it up then would have diluted the rest of their closing. And that last 5 minutes was weak enough already.)
