I adopted a beautiful tri-colored collie from a breeder the Collie Rescue League in Rhode Island recommended. They came and inspected my house first!
We don’t have much money, but my pets were always fat and sassy and well cared for.
After all that, they told me they didn’t have any available at the time!
*fuming*
About a month later, the breeder got a collie back.
She offered to meet me in Boston with the collie.
So, I met her there and we had dinner, and she was kinda checking me out.
Turns out that this collies owner got herself a boy friend, and he gave her an ultimatum-him or the dog.
She gave up this beautiful girl for HIM???
I would have told him to take a hike!
Anyway...
After dinner, we went to her big SUV, and she opened up the
hatch back, and their stood my beautiful girl!
She was not a “show-quality” collie, but it didn’t matter to me!
It was love at first sight!
The tips of a collies ears are supposed to fall over a little bit.
She had one ear bolt upright and the other
folded over.
It was endearing to me!
She wagged her tail and gave me a kiss!
I was so happy, I and put my arms around the collies neck and cried!
The breeder said “she’s all yours and handed over the leash to me!
I had seven wonder years with Pattie, and she was one of the VERY BEST dogs I have ever owned!
Minette LOVED her, and never once spat at her.
Two snuggle buddies!
Lovely story Ms. B. Lucky you, lucky dog. I wonder how the lady and her boyfriend wound up lol.
Beautiful story!
“I had seven wonder years”
Should read I had seven wonderful years.
Dang typos!
Awww, sweet story!
I love that some breeders and rescues are VERY careful with their animal’s new homes. The one in Connecticut that I sent the kittens to, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have been able to pass their application, LOL
We got my angel, Corduroy, from a breeder in CA that became a friend. She cried when we took Roy home. He was a big beautiful Persian but his eyes turned the wrong color. I never saw anything wrong with them but I was glad to have him since he was no longer show quality. He was the sweetest calmest cat I ever had. And I really didn’t realize he loved me until his last year. He was just so calm about it. I would come into the kitchen or some room and he would be laying on his cushion purring. I thought he did that all the time. But the year before he got sick I went into my husband’s office and Roy was there purring. But hubby told me he didn’t start purring until I showed up. I spent 15 years not realizing his calm sweet purring presence meant I was his special human.
