Btw—one of the more amusing issues that is documented is how the CIA reacted to drafting random citizens (well soldiers, actually) to make contact with the aliens.
Their human resources department concluded that it violated the agency’s ethics rules—all individuals must be volunteers.

Although I am fully convinced that, until the coming of the Christ, that God is keeping us separate from the rest of the universe. So any contact is, by default deceptive.
Having said that, I would volunteer to meet them in an open room just to talk. I would not volunteer to take a ride into orbit lest I am not returned.
They are (obviously) lying. Of course it would be unethical, but that sort of thing has never stopped all kinds of really shady &@$t in the past 80 years.
