I paid back every cent of my student loans back in the early 90's and I paid for every cent of my son's college educations.
You can't retire bdcause of your student loans? Exactly how is that MY problem you entitled little pricks! Pay back what you owe!! The rest of us did and we're retiring so F.U.!!!

Wanna know what their answer is? "Just because you had a rough time and had to pay back your loan doesn't mean everyone else should have a rough time, too."
I wish I could say I was making this up, but that's EXACTLY what they say when you bring up the fact you did the right thing. Websites are loaded with that kind of response and it's sickening.

We even spaced our children out 5 years apart so that we wouldn’t have two in college at the same time.
So we toughed it out and paid as we went, no college loans, ever.
For a couple of years, both our oldest and I were in college at the same time.
Of course, this was back in the ‘80s when tuition at a state school for a full class load was only about $250 a semester.

And why are people close to retirement age getting student loans anyway?

If we pay it then we’ll get sob stories about how these people can’t retire because they government hasn’t paid off their mortgage and credit card debts too. It’s about getting “free stuff” by making us pay for it.
