I believe it started the cascade into congestive heart failure that killed my formerly healthy father.
3 months after starting Xarelto, my dad wound up in the ICU with his entire body filled with fluid/lymphedema. We had to wait an entire week as they tried to get the drug out of his system before they could operate. Apparently there was no antidote available to reverse the blood thinner. When they finally operated, they drained a liter of fluid from one lung and a half liter from the other, in addition to more fluid around the pericardium.
When I suggested the Xarelto had triggered the cascade, the doctors poo-pooed me. Really? Because I remember taking him to a baseball game for Father’s Day and him telling me he hadn’t been feeling well since he started the stuff. And then 2 months later, his whole body started swelling slowly and then Suddenly he’s in the emergency room with irreversible fluid retention.
