Those who choose not to accept the mark of the Beast can be saved. We haven’t yet reached that End Times’ milestone.
My interpretation of their desire to get rid of the “God Gene” is to get rid of humanity’s intrinsic desire to know, love, and serve Our Lord, whether they recognize it or not. I believe they want to erase our desire for God - that restlessness of heart that St. Augustine so eloquently described.
