Morally, I can understand the rules around alcohol. But I cannot understand the lax attitude about hospitality. Guests are paying a lot of 2022 money to be catered to. If they are not, it will reflect not only on Qatar, but their neighboring countries, too.

I know F1 has held events in the region. But I have not heard of any problems at those events that I am hearing about Qatar and the World Cup.

I have heard and read that Qatar changed many rules on the eve of the event. I will marvel if they don’t face some sort of sanction over this.

Changing the deal at the last minute is a tactic often employed in the muslim world; part of the ‘culture’. Others do it, too, but if dealing with a muslim, one can bank on it. It’s about one-upmanship, not the money.
