I saw him twice between 2005 and 2011. He was hilarious, I would pay good money to see the show he had both or either time. Far from being too old and less funny. He aged incredibly well. There was less of what you saw on TV, and more of a stand-up comedian with give and take.

I know Bill Cosby is radioactive now, but I saw him at Harrahs Reno in 1978, front row dinner show. He was great, the best I had ever seen.....Until Gallagher, my sides were splitting and people were laughing just like me.

RIP, you were one of a kind.

I hope he found his way to the Cross.

Seemed like a really nice guy too. I never heard any vulgarity from him. Just good natured silly comedy. Sad he’s gone.

I saw Gallagher live (for free!) when he was just starting out. He was practicing his routine at our small college in LA in the late 70’s. He did it outside in the main quad in front of the dining hall at lunchtime. It was hilarious. Of course what I remember most was the watermelon smashing bit at the end.

On a side note, it’s funny that his Wikipedia page includes a section entitled: Audience Injuries. Haha.

My wife’s cousin invited her to a Kenny Rodgers concert in our city back in the ‘80s. Front row seats, no less. Gallagher opened the show. The Mrs. walked in the door, and looked like she had been in a food fight…

My wife was front row at one of his shows: she had NO idea what was about to happen…

I went. Sat back far enough. Brought a trash bag in case.

Did she get a clue when the people around her started unfurling clear drop cloths over themselves?

I think my friend had tickets for the second row as I recall. I’m sure Gallagher was great.

Only person who had the last name “Gallagher” that I was interested in was Rory Gallagher, the singer/songwriter/blues-rock guitarist.

I met him on a chilly blustery NW Washington day as it drizzled. He joked about it as he signed autographs and cracked wise. He was chill, and seemed like he would fit in at the local VFW..it being Veterans day and all.

I remember an end credit where Gallagher and an octopus were bombed on the street with watermelons from a building rooftop. The octopus died but Gallagher was able to escape squirming away on his belly.

Great sentiment... God speed to the next and better world.

I’ve seen them both perform live. He brother was terrible at the act.

I saw him at the Melody Tent in the mid 90’s. He had a seagull that flew over the audience and pooped marshmallow fluff on them/us.

Darn, no more smashing watermelons.

Billy Corgan better stick around or we won’t have any more smashing pumpkins either.

I’ve seen him live 3 times. The last time was at the Spokane Interstate Fair in the mid 90’s. I was “lucky” enough to see it on ‘death row’ (front row). They provided plastic sheets to protect against flying ‘debris’.
It was hilarious, as always. I got zinged with a flying chunk of watermelon to the side of my head. I consider it an honor. He signed the inside of my leather hat, which I still have.

RIP Gallagher. You were truly one of a kind..
