Welcome to Pennsylvania, America's Capital of Stupid
American Thinker ^ | 10 Nov, 2022 | Stephan Helgesen

This week, the citizens of Pennsylvania stole the loving cup of stupid from the citizens of another politically calcified state, New Mexico.

Students of American history will remember Philadelphia as the first capital of the new United States of America after the ratification of the Constitution. That city was the center of American politics and political life, but ten years later it lost that distinction to the swampy lands of Washington in the District of Columbia. On June 11th in 1800, Philly faded into the background in favor of Washington. Power had shifted, and the state reverted back to its trade, commerce, and agriculture. Pennsylvania's namesake, William Penn, was a prominent writer and Quaker and the state is in his debt for his efforts to make it a showcase for commerce. Penn's son, Thomas, came to Pennsylvania in 1732 and during the nine years of his stay there he successfully negotiated the sale of 1.2 million acres of land from an indigenous Indian tribe to the new province of Pennsylvania. He died 15 years before Philadelphia became the capital of that state (or commonwealth as it adopted the British term).

Pennsylvania is a very diverse place, and it is a state with a bifurcated political landscape. Most of rural PA is conservative, but hardcore liberals populate its cities. The state is an energy state with abundant resources, and it is home to a prestigious private ivy league research university, the University of Pennsylvania (located in Philadelphia) along with Carnegie Mellon, Swarthmore, and Villanova. It's proud of its working class and its historical intellectual prowess, but the recent mid-term victory of a bumbling, oafish hipster politician John Fetterman, over a medical doctor of national repute is puzzling and reflects the rampant spread of stupid.

I don’t think Jesus Christ could be elected to governor of some of those dark blue states.

Pennsylvania is a purple state, but the GOP has shifted way outside of the mainstream, so now we are stuck with Fetterman. My hope is that the GOP will jettison the dictatorial nonsense and this new half-baked agenda, and will try the revolutionary idea of just doing their jobs instead!

The Left's brainwashing has pushed them into solid insanity territory.

It is one thing to be understanding and tolerant of women who want an abortion right after conception, but it is another thing entirely to insist that abortions must be available up to and including the date of birth.

Everyone can agree that we need to try to understand what our children might be going through if and when they get confused as to their sexual identity, but it is extreme to insanity for us to insist that toddlers must be given irreversible gender reassignment surgery if they become "sexually" confused. And along that same line, if adult men believe they are women imprisoned in the bodies of men...okay, we can try to understand. But when men in drag prance about in front of children in an effort to groom them into their lifestyle?

And last but not least, we all try to be understanding of people who are mentally deficient because of stroke or age-related dementia, but demanding that we elect such people to the Senate or, gasp, the presidency, is a bridge too far.

The General Assembly is now controlled by the Dumocrats which eliminates any chance of election reform for at least 2 or 3 years. Pennsylvania is now in a very dark place.

Run a crap candidate, get a crap result.

The teeth gnashing over Oz’s loss shows just how out of touch the national punditry is…

Complete off brand, fraudulent, snake oil salesman decides he wants to be a Senator, attempts to carpetbag his way in and surprise surprise, he loses.

This outcome was obvious from the start, only reason OZ only lost by 3 was due to Fetterman’s stroke, otherwise OZ goes down by 6-8.

The national punditry are morons, absolute morons. A state full of working class blue collar conservative voters, are going to be enamored by a man who is a member of the media industrial complex, is a card carrying member of the WEF, has advocated for gun control and trans children
Etc etc who literaLly had to settle a civil case for selling snake oil by paying out 5 million + dollars and agree to never again air the episodes of his show where he pitched the snake oil…

OZ had absolutely no political base or even connection to PA to build from, and the national pundits who’s entire experience in PA is they drove the turnpike 20 years ago once push this absolutely off brand candidate as a winnable candidate. A guy who had to spent more money in the GOP primary that both candidates spent combined in the last senate election to get 31% of the primary vote… this guy, this guys gonna win?!?!?

Run a crap candidate, get a crap result.. that’s exactly what happened in PA, and it was clear from the start this was the likely outcome… lash out at the voters all you like, but the real people who should be ashamed of themselves are the national pundits for pushing this turd in the first place.

This was going to be a tough state to win this cycle even with a great candidate… but to push the absolutely worst off brand candidate I have ever seen in my adult life and then last out at voters who didn’t get on board with your nonsense is just attempting to deflect from your own miserable failure

Don’t underestimate the “stroke vote” in Pa. Their Walmart’s have more handicapped parking spaces than regular ones. I gotta give it up for them, they pulled the curtain back and saw the real Oz. They recognize an elitist carpetbagger when they see one.

Oh, that’s just great. Fetterman’s win might actually be legit, but them taking over the legislature??? Please.

The Penn GOP legislature had the chance, in 2020, to investigate what went on in places like Philly on Nov 3-4, 2020 and in the days afterward, and a few of the legislators wanted to, but the legislature, as a whole, didn’t appear to do much. They didn’t even offer an alternate slate of electors.* So why would they expect to keep their place if the Democrats were willing to cheat?

Serves them right.

*If memory serves me correctly, the Pennsylvania GOP actually did offer a slate of electors, but I’m not sure that would count the way it would if the legislature itself offered the slate, per their power under the U.S. Constitution.

New York City served as the seat of our nation’s legislature and as de facto “capital” from the time when our government was operating under the Articles of Confederation in 1784. It was late in 1784 when the Continental Congress, in which authority was vested at the time, voted to designate New York City as its meeting place until such time as a “federal district” on the banks of the Delaware River near Philadelphia could be completed.
Given the prevalence of Yellow Fever during Philadelphia’s summer, most politicians hated the place. And that included Washington, Adams and Jefferson.

I agree, you get mixed bag of all different dried dog poo with oz, With fetterman, you know which dog it came from and it’s still fresh and squishing like his brain.
Chose the devil you know instead of a snake oil salesman.

Uncle Festerman steps down and his wife takes his place in the Senate in 3....2....1....

May not be necessary. She'll be Dr. Jill to the brain-damaged Fetterman.

Truthfully this was the worst possible election race.

We know about Lurch but Oz is a carpetbagger, period. That alone makes him a terrible candidate. Add to that his milquetoast RINO viewpoints and his Moslemnity, and you have a really poor choice.

Talk about Sophie’s choice.

Your words carry a great deal of weight.
Here in michiganstan, we had to choose between wHitler and fourdoor dixon.
I watched the gop debates for the first time in 20 years.
Out of 5 candidates, I rated fourdoor as #4.
She had a hard time putting together a coherent thought.
Yet, somehow, she won.
And we lost.
Again
