A UK teen is being mocked mercilessly online after plunging her car into a river — right after nearly acing her driver’s test. A video detailing the car-tastrophe racked up 2 million views on TikTok before being taken down.
“Just because you’ve passed your driving test well, it doesn’t mean you are an amazing driver,” Leia Darnell, 18, told NeedToKnow.online of the fiasco.
The Oxford native had reportedly been “over the moon” to take her Volkswagen Polo for a spin after passing her driving test two months ago with only one minor fault, per the clip. After visiting a fireworks show with her boyfriend, the teen drove home during dark and rainy weather.

Who among us hasn’t been driving along a straight road and suddenly made a 90 degree turn into a hedge, thence down a steep embankment into a river.
If she is allowed to operate motor vehicles in the future, she should have to drive that same car after it has been “fixed”.
Too bad it wasn’t an EV. Then it would have been self clearing after it hit the water.
Yep. Maybe knocked out in the crash? Ice cold water, too, so you don’t have much time. You have to roll the window down to let water in to equalize pressure before you can open the door. People panic and start pushing on the door with all the water outside and there is no way to get the door open. You have to be calm, fill the car up with water, get the window down and swim out. Or open the door after the car fills with water.
Imagine going down in the black, freezing cold water and keeping your head about you to do that?
Also, we should consider that her vision was obscured by that thicket of fake eyelashes.
It could have been worse. If Teddy “The submarine commander” Kennedy was driving, they would have been fishing her dead body out tomorrow after he sobered up enough to talk to the PD.
I think this is one of the reasons they tell you to always carry one of those tools that breaks the windshield...
