What happened in the rest of the world? I feel so badly for the loss many have experienced, maybe even a bit guilty.
Well, I’ve been mostly untouched too, and I feel fortunate for that, since I live in a blue county of our wonderful Red State. The big distinction has been opting out of work, though. When/if I go back, it will be interesting to see how I am treated by my woke cohorts! But in real life relationships, I seem to have suffered just one casualty. My high school best friend (really my only friend from those days). I actually was worried that something might have happened to her, as we used to email fairly frequently, and had lapsed. So I took the first step in August, writing to ask if she was okay, and apologizing for the long silence on my part, explaining that the weird world had gotten in the way of some of my usual previously established habits and routines. I promised to do better. I didn’t hear back. Then I sent her a birthday card. Didn’t hear back. Then I got more worried. I did a web search for her, and apparently she’s still quite busily involved in her profession. Then I found a link to her on BookFarce, where I’m not a member but can see the opening page and a few photos. Well I looked at the photos, and one was encircled by a banner that said “Love your neighbor: Wear a mask! Get Vaxxed!” And another photo was encircled by one that was a tribute to RBG, about “keeping her legacy alive” or some such, on which my friend had commented “I don’t think she would be at all happy about her successor!” So it appears that my high school buddy has gone all Woke on me. That would explain the silence, as I’ve never been shy about my views. Sigh.
I’ve found that woke-folk spiral quickly into the fascist trope of labels and “non-human” -ism.
As with all fascists that ascend to power, a specific group must be stripped of any social power and found to be sub-human.
It justifies their indifference when “their democracy” [authority] places a boot on your neck or a pistol at your head.
