That is a wise position. Those who know warfare, know that there are too many variables to make definitive predictions. Ole NorseViking said back in February that Kiev would fall within days. He went out on a limb and the winds of war blew it off the tree.
When you say Person “X” is dead, you set yourself up for being disproven.
When you say territory “Y” is in the hands of one side or the other, you set yourself up for being disproven.
There are plenty of facts available to give a general idea of how things are going for Russian.
The idea that “we cannot believe a single thing anyone says about anything because both sides lie” overlooks that there are certain things both sides CAN’T lie about, at least not for long.
