How quickly do you all think the mainstream media will ignore this bombshell story about Raphael Warnock and his church? Gonna guess if Free Beacon didn’t break this story we’d have never known about this shockingly bad story.

Keep in mind, this is a church and this guy is a PASTOR.

Liberal Atlanta news will hide this. They’re on over 3 hours a day and won’t have time to talk about it.

The only way the Lying leftist Media will spin this is will be as an opportunity for more unconstitutional government expansion of power over us and our beliefs.

If a crime has been committed, then it should be taken to Court where the issue belongs, not with the feds.

This story has three aspects, at least as I see it:

1. How much his church is paying him as a housing allowance.
2. He is evicting tenants who don’t pay their rent.
3. His building received $15 million in taxpayer funding.

He’s certainly not obligated to allow people to live there rent free, but when people see those three things and lump them together as a single issue, well, it has bad optics.

It looks like he could give all these people free rent out of his housing allowance. However, that would just create a building full of freeloaders. Sadly, thanks to human nature it’s more complicated than that.

I agree, the issue is optics.

It is common for churches to provide a pastoral housing allowance, or even have a manse for the pastor/family, as part of the compensation; it helps for tax purposes, and is more convenient in denominations, like the Methodists, that move their pastors around every four years or so.

It would be better for him to stay out of the landlord business and stick to the Savior and Lord business, but apostasy is like a squid with many arms, full of black ink.

Yep. And it sort of follows in that whole “avoidance of appearance of impropriety” thing.

What I was thinking.

If the story is true, it’s not a case of a longsuffering landlord being finally forced to evict deadbeat tenants. It’s evicting people one day late with rent, people owing relatively small amounts of money, and they are tacking on penalties and fees many times what is owed. Should they provide free housing? Of course not. They’re showing themselves a little short on grace and mercy, however. Especially considering that the pastor’s housing allowance seems more than generous.

Yes. You may be right about this. I have to admit that wherever anyone lives in the country, with rare exception, his housing allowance is exorbitant. And if he’s playing the “one day late so you’re out” card, that is weaponizing his landlord role. It makes him the epitome of the “landlord from hell”.

Because it’s an allowance, it is not taxed. $89,000 a year in free money.

“Records obtained by @FreeBeacon reveal Raphael Warnock’s church, which pays him a $7,417 monthly housing allowance, secretly owns a low-income apartment building that tried to evict residents during the pandemic.”

Why is/was it “secretly” owned?

The allowance isn’t taxed?

I find that unfair. Under IRS rules,if my employer sends me out of town, and they provide me a hotel room, then the amount of the hotel room is considered income to me, and I am taxed on it. (Even though the money never passed through my hands.) I I know this is true because I did some traveling for my job and experienced this.

Paying that much for housing sounds a bit outrageous, still.
