Him/her name was Jane Coaston.
I think it reached number one. Either way, very popular song.
This brings back memories.
Hold me now (Hold me in your lovin’arms)
Always reminds me of my Manhattan years
That and Avalon
And Smiths and Cure and Depeche and early REM
There name wasn’t “Thompson” and they were three of them, not two.
Good song.
Did you head into Stone Harbor and go to Fred’s Tavern?
For some reason I thought it was three white people...
They originally started out with 4 guys.
“The band was named after the two bumbling detectives Thomson and Thompson from HergĂ©’s comic strip, The Adventures of Tintin.
My favorite from these guys was “Lies.” It has a great beat:

Everybody focuses on the excellent vocals but that bass just cooks.
The first song I remember from them was “Love On Your Side”

Sometimes I hear a song I’ve heard before, many times, but for some reason all the times before the listening was a blur during which I did not really isolate the lyrics, then I hear what is to me a new performanc of the song, and finally I am listening to the lyrics - this was one of those occasions.
They were named after characters from “The Adventures of Tintin.”
Saw them in concert in the mid/late 80s. I want to say they open for The Powerstation, but I can’t remember
I might have you beat on early REM. I saw them for free - in the daytime! - at the Piedmont Arts Festival in Atlanta. Radio Free Europe was just really catching on. Still have an early 45 of that somewhere. Later saw them at the old 688 Club on Spring Street. I think they had the first EP out.
REM was great before you could actually understand their lyrics.
Warm my heart.
