Has Anyone Followed the Inspector Morse Series? Inspector Morse, Lewis, and Endeavour? Thoughts?
I have been overwhelmed with the series. to the point that I have purchased the DVDS. I have never felt television to fit. this fits.
your take?
My favorite Brit mystery series is Foyle’s War.
It is about a small town Brit Cop in pre WW2 and WW2.
My maternal Grandfather was a Brit descendent and looked enough like Foyle to be a twin.
We have a few Brit Friends in our age group, and they were in the UK during the War. They love this series.
The shows after WW2 were often a hard stretch to be as realistic as his/Foyle’s first series.
Noooo!
How fortunate you are. A Morse Tour! I have just become aware of Fox’s political work, he has been subbing for Nigel Farage at GBNEWs
I know.
altogether there are about 99 episodes. That is almost a half year of television for me. So good!
I watched the original Morse series, mainly for John Thaw. The show was a huge hit. Thaw also acted in several other popular British serials, including Kavanaugh QC and The Sweeney. He died some years ago of esophageal cancer — he was a very heavy smoker. When you watch your Morse CDs, watch for brief cameos by the author of the original Morse books, Colin Dexter.
Might want to check out Father Brown/
Another great series.
It took me a while to get involved in Lewis. But he became a figure of process, tragedy, and eventual overcoming. And he did not lose his essential self.
The final season of Doc Martin is starting.
Did 19 back a few years ago. enjoyed it.
Foyles War I have enjoyed, twice which says a lot. The London season left me cold though.
true. There is much more to their characters.
I am buying them all on DVD for this is one of the few that I am going to re-watch on my own time.
Marple and Poriot were delightful.
Enjoyed Poriot and enjoyed how it ended.
The brits tell the story until it is done.
Then it is done.
Same here. I rarely watch any American cop/detective series. I think Longmire was the last one I viewed. Followed it from A&E to Netflix. Recently I viewed "Dark Winds," an AMC series via streaming. The series is based on Navajo police characters Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn, and Deputy Jim Chee from Tony Hillerman's book series which exclusively features the two men. I read all the books until Hillerman passed, then tried reading his daughter's continuation of the series, but I didn't care for them. The TV series wasn't bad, but if you read any the books, you'd know they tweaked the main characters, along with their family lives, native-american beliefs, among other things. PBS did a series of three movies in 2002, featuring the Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee characters. Wes Studi played Joe Leaphorn, and Adam Beach played Jim Chee. The movies were more in line with the books. In the new TV series, they have Zahn McClarnon playing Leaphorn, and Kiowa Gordon as Chee. McClarnon is a familiar face from the Longmire series, and Reservation Dogs (Hulu). McClaron played a cop is both of those series. The Dark Winds series has been picked up for a second season.
I tend to watch the shows from the 80s and 90s that forgo some of that claptrap.
and the period dramas.
I enjoyed the show, I didn’t like him but I enjoyed him, and who he became.
The relationship between him and Lewis and Lewis’s basic decency were an education of it’s own.
Not a bad series. It did raise a question in my mind that it never answered: What exactly was Morse’ problem? Why so irascible?
Thank you!
Laurance Fox who plays DS James Hathaway in Inspector Lewis recently portrayed Hunter Biden in "My Son Hunter."
