Ok here it is, We are planning a Texas Trip next late summer(Early Sept) and my wife wants to go to a beach, what are the best Texas Beaches?
Galveston, Corpus Christi, and South Padre Island.
South Padre would be the best. Port Aransas next best.
padre island and corpus .... Galveston?..... yeah not so much.
Corpus Christi, and South Padre Island.
Keep driving, until you get to Destin, FL’s sugar white sand beach.
Unfortunately, Texas does not have pretty beaches, being on the dirty side of the Gulf.
Avoid Galveston, whatever you do.
I like Surfside Beach, but SPI is the place to go.
If you have 4WD, try north padre island, all primitive, no electricity but beautiful blue water, great place to camp but you have to bring everything with you.
Don’t expect a lot of white sand.
Sand is more brownish.
Savannah Bay beach on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands is the most beautiful beach I have ever been on.
No need to go all the way to Destin (a.k.a., tourist trap). Lots of nice beaches along the way beginning in Alabama.
Port Aransas has the best sand. Galveston is huge, but hard as concrete in places. Some pretty cool attractions in the city though. Corpus Christi’s beach seems more like broken shells than sand. South Padre Island used to be the place to go, but, IMO, it’s gone downhill over the years ... and it’s a very long drive to get there.
Gulf Shores, AL has pretty white beaches with a lot less of the tourist taxes of FL.
You are about to find out how big Texas is if you try to drive to south padre island
I’ve never been to South Padre Island, but I’ve heard its top notch.
Camp on the beach?
Of the three in order of best beaches is South Padre, Corpus Christi, and last Galveston.
However, Galveston has many historic homes open to the public and is worth the trip. South Padre has the best beaches. Corpus has good beaches also. Both have excellent seafood. If you just want the beaches go to South Padre or Corpus. If you want a lesser beach but like history and tours of old mansions, go to Galveston. None of the three will disappoint.
Agree with Jane…..Destin is beautiful……..also Pensacola ( & you can watch the Thunderbirds airplanes practice)
Both of these are on the Panhandle, not far from Texas
South Padre Island.
