I believe he was tortured and murdered by the cartels.
If I ever visit south Texas, I’ll stay on the American side of the border.

Yes, I believe it was a student but that’s been a while back.
I was thinking about the fall of Mexico, among other countries.
Used to be that college kids would go to Mexico on vacation. One Mexican college student I met would travel across the border frequently and was fluent in English. Yes they had less money but the place wasn’t bad.
Then several years ago I went to Paris and from the train saw neighborhoods I absolutely would not walk through. Worse than St. Louis. Not anything like 30-40 years ago.
And here in America once safe and descent neighborhoods have homeless at every highway off-ramp, gun shots several times a week, carjacking’s, etc.
It seems like every place in the world is getting worse, not better.

Prettiest, South Padre. But unlike most Texas beaches access is somewhat limited in the town of South Padre Island.
Corpus Christi area has ok beaches but great vehicle access. Port Aransas, Mustang Island, North Padre Island and the Padre Island National Seashore. You can beach drive for miles and miles.
Galveston ok but would not choose it unless really good food is your thing.
Little kids? Then Rockport Beach City Park.
