On his 98th birthday, Jimmy Carter has once again set a new record as the longest-living United States president.
He's held the title since March of 2019, months after the previous title holder — President George H.W. Bush — died at the age of 94. President Carter may have only led the nation for four years, but in the four decades that have followed his White House tenure, he's managed to leverage his place in history to help others both domestically and abroad. The Carter Center, founded by Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in 1982, has been aiding in a wide range of humanitarian efforts for 40 years now.

A stronger Democrat president would likely have held off Reagan in 1980. That would have changed the course of history and likely not in a very good way.
Yes, a nice enough guy. I wouldn't mind having him as a neighbor or my car insurance guy (but his brother Billy would have been more fun.) As a president though? No way.
That said, I do wish him well in his quest to reach 100 years old.
Adrenochrome...
Jus’ sayin’....
Well done Jimmy. He seems to be a decent man. He was smart and read his briefing papers. However that did not translate to making good decisions.
Something for which Jimmy Carter has been better at than any President before him. Living longer takes a lot out of a guy, doncha know?
He lived long enough to see a worse President than himself
Compared to what we have now, President Carter was a paragon of competence.
two of them
Jimmy never met a communist he didn’t like or a chance to coddle them
What a loser
Jimmy Carter helped change the course of history and allowed The Shah of Iran to fall.
Oh, good grief. Jimmy Carter was a lousy president but I'm not going to call him a monster.
At least he lived long enough to see himself no longer being regarded as "worst American president in modern history." (which, for the record, I will always bestow upon LBJ).
And, Democrats, he's still eligible for another term! Seriously, you couldn't possible do worse. I would take Jimmy Carter over literally anyone that the Democrats will field in 2024.
And he was Clinton’s lackey for setting up North Korea with a ton of money to go nuclear
Some things never die. You just can’t get rid of them
Well put.
Some folks are good in certain roles.
That doesn’t make them a bad person, but it does make for really bad decisions when the wrong person gets into a leadership role.
Trump is the antithesis. A good President that made literally all the right decisions. But do you really think he’s a “nice guy?”
And finally you end up with a Biden or an Obama. A bad person (character) that makes all the wrong decisions.
People vote based on name recognition and likability. They do not see it in terms of KSAs: past job experience, education, track record of results... They should look at it like an interview for a job, not like dancing with the stars.

Happy Birthday, President Carter.
Ugh...
> Jimmy Carter helped change the course of history and allowed The Shah of Iran to fall. <
Yep. That was far and away his biggest mistake. The two greatest enemies of radical Islam in the region were the Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussein. Carter stupidly got rid of the first one. George W. Bush stupidly got rid of the second one.
I’d say W was much worse than Carter. W’s invasion of Iraq was expensive and bloody. And it unleashed the Syrian civil war and the mass Muslim immigration into Europe.
Carter’s mistakes pale in comparison.
Funded by the Saudis who own Carter, an out-and-out Israel hater and anti-Semite.
HBO documentary “Hostages” 4 episodes.
Still a disaster as president. Would have done better in life as an academic or a preacher. Or just stayed with the peanut farming.
President Carter, you are no longer the worst president in my life time.
You are now third or fourth on my list.
Happy birthday!
