It certainly did not work well for Venezuela. Once a huge producer of oil, Chavez nationalized it so the oil companies nasty profits would go the people. (The people being Chavez and his cronies.) They fired the oil company employees that knew what they were doing and put political cronies in to run the oil production. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how that worked out.
