Oh that sounds SO good! We briefly thought about staying in CA and checked out the Cresent City area, right below the Oregon border. LOTS of salmon fishing opportunities there and that was my main draw there. Prepping would’ve been great with fresh Salmon (although with everyone fishing, opportunities might be depleted). Growing anything was another issue with temps 40-50 year round. That’s a lovely temp coming from Bakersfield in the summer, but I imagine it feels chilly eventually. But no A/C and limited heat needed.
HEB - I wish we had one here! And a Winco.
That’s what I was thinking too - I saw some canned salmon at a discount grocery - those are all over here and I’ve never seen them in another state. I bought some and it had limited skin and bones and broth, not as bad as many of the cans I’ve bought. Doesn’t expire until 2025. I don’t know why it’s at the discount grocery, but it’s not dirt cheap either. I think I’ll get some more.
Have you always like spicy food or is that a Texas thing?

From 6th grade on, I had friends from different ethnic backgrounds and experienced tasty foods and never went back to plain foods only. We had two girls move from Mexico in 6th grade, and back then the school just assigned a classmate to help non English speaking students, me, so I spent time at their house. I had a friend with a Japanese mom, but I only liked her fried chicken. Then friends from India, I love Indian food. We always had Chinese food and Italian. I guess I’m just a foodie. And I still love chicken fried steak, etc.
Sounds like you have been prepping for many years? I’ve always had a supply to last awhile because you never know what may happen. Have you eaten everything you had? I’m asking because some people store food they never end up eating.
If you live where there’s good fishing and hunting, as long as there are limits, fresh food should be available.
