Another PS - I am confused as to who owns these pipelines, and who built them.

Meant to reply; Norstrean owned by Gazprom, RU owns 50% of Gazprom, EU shareholders the rest. Did not see who built them.

The Russian gas company Gazprom owns a majority share of both pipelines. They were designed and built by string of different companies.

Nord Stream 2 was complete but never certified and so had no gas flowing through it. Nord Stream 1 consists of two 48" pipes about 476 miles in length. Even with no NG being pumped in by Russia, a significant amount would still remain in the pipeline. A rough back of the envelope yields a pipeline volume of 31,582,807 ft³. A 20-lb propane tank is about 2 ft³.
