I think a lot of men are that way trying to keep the wives from worrying. (or from us gently nudging them to take care) I will do that on occasion and tell my husband its because I’m trying to keep him good (well) for a long time.
The day he fell in the utility room and I struggled to get him up, I told him I would call 911 or our daughter if I couldn’t get him up and he panicked. I had to lay down the law and told him that if he fell again, I was calling one or the other. He did, and I did.
